The Decision of the Press Council of Kosovo on the appeal of Januz Krasniqit, the director of Tax Administration of Kosovo (TAK), against the newspaper “Lajm”
6 February 2008Mr. Januz Krasniqi then a director of TAK, submitted an appeal against the newspaper “Lajm” on 07.12.07, asking the PCK to consider the information, as mentioned in the appeal: “until January 7, 2008, I, Januz Krasniqi, the Director of Tax Administration of Kosovo, did not receive such a decision to get fired from my work, be it from the SRSG or his representative and neither it was published.
The article in question was published on December 6, 2007 with the title “Ruecker signs the suspension of Januz Krasniqit?” The PCK, after reviewing the relevant facts of the appeal and the response of the newspaper “Lajm” and also the decision of Mr. Ruecker, dated December 31, 2007, found that the newspaper referred to three different sources and at the time of publishing this information there was a commission established by UNMIK working on the facts against Mr. Krasniqi brought by the Minister of Finance Haki Shatri, when he fired Mr. Krasniqi, which was not under his competence but it fell under UNMIK’s.
According to the newspaper “Lajm”, the editorial office requested initially a statement from Mr. Krasniqi regarding the information that a panel was working on his case and others, but he did not want to contact with newspaper, waiting for the decision of the PCK.
Mr. Januz Krasniqi, indeed, was fired from the position of the director of TAK by the SRSG, on December 31, 2007 and not on December 6, 2007, when he received the warning.
