Adjudication of the Press Council of Kosovo on the Complaint of Mr. Ramadan Cakolli, against Kosova Sot newspaper
5 December 2008 In its meeting held on 02 December 2008, upon reviewing the complaint of Ramadan Cakolli pensioner, lodged against Kosova Sot newspaper in relation to an article published on 21 November entitled: “The winter is coming, how will I ensure firewood” the Press Council of Kosovo rendered the following:The journalist of Kosova Sot admits that in her clarification article published on 28 November, she “did not manage to interview other members of the family” whereas in contested article she wrote that she visited the house of the pensioner and spoke to his wife, what appears not to be true.
Although the purpose of the newspaper was not malevolent, the complainant says that the newspaper has described some allegations which he did not allege like for example “he does not receive any other income”, “we have nothing” and “we are only living on this pension which is not even enough for food, let alone other things”.
The newspaper has no intention to stain the personality of the pensioner in question, however the newspaper has distorted some facts which are not denied by the newspaper in the clarification article on 28 November 2008.
Therefore the Press Council Adjudicated as in the ruling of the present article.
Kosova sot newspaper has partially respected Article 4 paragraph 1 by publishing the clarification article, but has failed to publish the reaction of the complainant entirely.
